Artist's Comments

I know...this looks a lot like Welcome to My Apo Garden. However, in view of the great critique by :iconbooleann-angel: and comments from other good artists, I decided to darken the frame, lose the tree, and use something else to balance the "sun" now that the tree was gone. This time my balance are some Apo butterflies. Except for the frame, the grass, the sky gradient, and the clouds, all elements are Apo 2.08 3DH fractals. All postwork done in Photoshop CS. I can't begin to tell you how many layers this is. I think I'm afraid to count them. I hope you like the changes I made.

Critiques

I've been thinking about this one for a bit. In ways I think I like this one more than the other variations. I hadn't realized until seeing this, how much of a difference the tree made. The tree is awesome, but I do like the butterflies much better. Of course, I am a butterfly kind of girl.

I really love the little halo effect around each of the butterflies. It gives them a dreamy quality. I also really love how you did the sky too. The golden part reflecting the warmth of the sun. The cooler blue farther away from it.

One of the other things I had noticed in the very first image like this that I didn't point out is that the 'hourglass' flame is made in such a way that there is a real 3D appearance to it. The base is shaped in such a way that it looks like it has come up from beneath the ground. It is a very cool effect.

I like the balance this has and once again, I do like how you did the frame.

Yes I like it better this way. The butterflies are really lovely. Brilliant job.

Don't let pretensions and negativity restrict your creativity.
:iconwolfepaw:
Thanks, Roz. I'm so glad you like it.

I thought this one might be a bit better than the first one. I agreed with everything Lea and Satu said about it. So, I figured, I might as well put the critique to the use for which it was intended: to improve one's work. I hope I got it right this time.

awesome work! lewis carroll couldn't come up with something so profound and triptasitc! thumbz up award babe! how many of these have you done and HOW IN THE HELL can you make apo butterflies?
:icondebi62:
It says you're actually asking for critiques on this. If you're wanting just anyone's opinion, I can give you mine, but I think I would rather do it in a note instead of using the critique button thingy or posting it here. It's up to you. I'm no expert so I don't know how much my opinion would help anyway.

I think your sun is just beautiful though! Really COOL! :D

Art thieves unite!! Then go as a group for psychotherapy!!!! You really do need it when you can't seem to respect other people's rights!!!! :(
:iconwolfepaw:
If you're more comfortable sending me a note, then by all means, do that. I'd be curious to know what you think. Don't worry about hurting my feelings. If we don't ever misstep, we never learn how to find the right path again.

Thanks so much! The butterflies are actually one of my many gnarl flames. It's been flitting around my Wall of Design flame pack for a couple of months now. When I decided to remove the tree, it occurred to me that the butterflies might be a good substitute.

And this is my 6th big collage, I think. Maybe I'll make 6 more and make a calendar! (I think I'd have to vary the look a little more between them). They also take a large amount of time and a lot of memory to do. My Photoshop scratch disk got full on one of them and I had close it and couldn't save some of my recent changes. (Luckily, I had not done a whole lot since my last successful save). I had to reassign the scratch disk to two other drives, plus my hard drive.
