Fractal Orange Blossoms by wolfepaw Fractal Orange Blossoms by wolfepaw
This is a rather orange UF fractal made using the DooDads OCA. Would you believe this took 11 hours to render. I seem to having these incredibly long render times, and I think it's related to whenever I use a texture. Must be a lot of math going on with those textures. I had to stop this render 3-4 times so my computer could work on other things. But, eventually it finished. I hope you think it was worth the wait.

Made using UltraFractal 5 and postwork done in PhotoPlus X5.

Orig params name: PW 5 DooDads Leaves and Flowers

I've been having some 2, 3, or in one case EIGHT-hour render times too, lately.

Thanks for the feedback.  Yes, sometimes, it just works out that way.  I guess a lot depends on the formulas and coloring used and of course the render density and size.  But sometimes, even small ones can take hours.  It just depends.

Yes Peggi it was worth the wait... I would never have the patience to wait so long. 5 hours on an old PC for an Apo once... Fraxplorer just takes a few minutes. FE can take a few hours but never that long. Xenodream can take a long time. I make those on an XP PC that has only 2 GIG of RAM. Not done any of those for a while...

Hate Mandlebulbs and UF I just can't be arsed using right now. I have it and used to use it a lot years ago long before the DooDads and all the textures... I suppose we all have our favourites...

Thanks, Roz!!  This was unusual for UF to take this long.  But, I have noticed whenever I use textures coloring, it seems to take forever, even if the texture is masked and only a small portion of the image actually "shows" the texture.  But, sometimes, the long wait is worth it.  And, if I can let it render after I leave work or while I'm sleeping, that works for me.

Nice job, Peggi! From a distance the flower look like daffodils with those colourful centres. A very happy image. :sun:

Thank you so much, Chris, for the lovely comment!  I'm so glad you liked this.  I learned a little more about DooDads on this one.  I may have to play with them some more and see what I can come up with.  Just a rather general question: Do you use DooDads much in your flower fractals?  The flower shapes you get are so different from what I get using Orbit Traps with Flower shapes.  Yours seem more non-symmetrical and realistic.  Just wondering.

I did like it... very uplifting! :sun:

I mostly use plugins to design my flowers. I like to play around, merging different trap shapes (that includes the Doodads plugin occasionally). I also often distort the results with multiple (plugin) transforms or by moving just one of the (blended) trap shapes to give a lopsided effect. Trap shape plugins can also include things that are traditionally considered textures as structure - adding a pinch of fBm to the trap, for example, can add unusual lumps and bumps to the mix which can remove some of the regularity of petal shapes. I also like to vary colouring and sometimes texture on the iterations. I believe all this helps to eradicate that "cookie cutter" clone look and makes the flowers look more variable and natural. It is unusual in nature to get identical flowers and to achieve that in UF you really have to work at introducing the appearance of random variations. It's a bit like cooking; a pinch of this, a drizzle of that... until something really tasty comes up. :)
