Vampire Moon by wolfepaw Vampire Moon by wolfepaw
This won 2nd place in :iconxgnyc:'s Halloween and Samhain Contest! I am so totally excited about this. I didn't think I had a snowball's chance in Hell of winning any place, the entries were so awesome. Thank you so much to the judges who selected this as a winner! I really appreciate it!

This is a Halloween scene done entirely in UF5 for the 2011 Halloween Contest being held by :iconxgnyc:. I'm so happy she decided to have the contest again this year. I think it's one of the best Halloween contests on dA. Here's her journal article about the contest. [link]

Now, hurry up and go make something for it!!

Made in UF5 and postwork done in PhotoPlus X4.

Full view for detail.

Thank you very much!!  That's a lovely thing to say!!  I do fractal art and it's created using special fractal generating software, like Apophysis 7X, UltraFractal 5 (which is what this image was made in), and Mandelbulb3D, just to name a few.  Fractals are made using mathematical equations, but you don't need to know math to do them.  I am living proof of that!  Also, Apophysis 7X and Mandelbulb3D are completely free, as are a ton of resources for them.  They're a lot of fun to make!!  If you're interested in learning how to make fractals, note me, and I can probably point you in the direction of some good resources to get you started.

That is completely fascinating! Thank you for explaining how you do it! I shared one of your creations on Facebook that I found on the Sacred Geometry page. Someone there had a link to your Deviant Art page here and said they knew you. I would love to know more about making fractals, too. I took a lot of math in college so I think the link to fractals would be a fun thing to finally us it on maybe? lol! I do charcoal sketches mainly of cats, some portraits, but mostly writing these days as I'm trying to break into the screenplay world! Very happy to meet you here! I joined so that I could post the comment to you! :-)

I'm very happy to meet you, too!  I know a lot of people on the Sacred Geometry page, so they were probably not lying to you.  I know the owner of the page, Gea Austen, through dA.

As far as making fractals, I would recommend starting with Apophysis 7X.  There's a group here on dA that I refer people to a lot called :iconfractal-resources:.  They have a lot of very helpful and useful resources, like tutorials, scripts, flamepacks (the text file parameters that actually create the images), gradients and plug-ins (additional formulas to use in the creation of the fractal).  They have a whole section devoted to each of the major fractal generating programs, including Apophysis, UltraFractal and Fractal Explorer, another free program.

Here is the link to the Apophysis Resource Gallery: fractal-resources.deviantart.c…

Here are a couple of tutorials for beginners.  Don't get too frustrated at first.  Working in the fractal environment is very different from any other graphic editing program you may be used to.

Also, there are several versions of Apophysis 7X online for free download, but I have a version that I really like and it's pretty stable and bug-free.  If you send me your email address I can email it to you in a zip file.  You would just extract it and click on the Apophysis 7X 02-01-11.exe to launch the program.  No need to install it.  I put it in my Documents folder so my new params in the Apophysis 7X folder get backed up with my other documents.

Just let me know if you want me to email it.  Note me with your email address.

Have a nice day, Mooncat, and it's always great to meet a new fan of fractal art!!  Thank you for all your kind words!
