Okay, wow, nothing special??? I think this has a story to tell! This has a certain quality to it that makes it seem like something has been captured in the center, is imprisoned , and unable to escape, and yet, as your eyes follow the flame upward, you see that "it" has broken through, and escaped and is free. Perhaps a spirit being unchained from this mortality and set free to pursue the music of the spheres? Perhaps it is hope that has been locked away for years, and has finally broken free to fly? I don't know. I do know that over and over in your work, you reveal images that can reach out and make one think.

Art is subjective, and I suppose that is a good thing. I think, as silly as this might sound, when we create, we give a part of who we are, a part of our spirit, into the work. If we didn't, others would not be moved by what we create.

Perhaps all the arts are that way. I know that writing is that way. Even years after a writer has died, we can strongly sense the spirit of who they were, and what they were about.

I think of Edgar Allen Poe and you can tell he was a depressed and melancholy person. It is in the very fabric of his words.
There was a sadness and a sense of doom that came through all of his writings.

Mark Twain, on the other hand, stuck me as being a real rascal of a man. What we would refer to today as a "grumpy old man". His writings reveal a person who was very wry. I get the impression he was one of those people who liked to rile people up, just to see their reactions. In that sense I think he was a person who liked to manipulate the situations he was in, and those things also come through strongly in his writings. His sense of humor was well documented even during his lifetime and is also evident in his writings.

In those ways those writers imbued their work with their spirits and that is a feeling I get when I view a lot of your art.

Music is the the same way. Perhaps the greatest of the arts that reveal the heart and soul of the creator. Wagner, Vivaldi, Beethoven. All I have to do is write their names and we immediately know about them.

This image is, for me, an image that inspires one to excel, and to strive for the seemingly impossible, and perhaps even to reach it.
